Candid Wedding Photography

Let’s take a look at a very specific style of photography. Candid.
Often called candid but also known as reportage, documentary or storytelling photography.

Candid photography really lends itself well to weddings. There is so much going on at weddings. It’s a day of emotions and these make for some pretty epic photographs.

I’m a huge fan of candid photography because I feel it captures real, natural moments that tell stories.
And I for one love telling stories through my photographs.

Candid photography is very much a ‘fly on the wall’ honest depiction of any event. It is the perfect style to capture the essence of your wedding. It depicts the day, telling the full story as it unfolds. The huge importance of having a wedding photographer is to obtain professional images which can be relived for years and generations to come. To be able to literally capture the vibe of your day, bottle it up and seal it in an album to be stumbled upon by your grandchildren is awesome. Candid photography is perfect for this.

When you look back at your parents or grandparents wedding albums do you get a feeling for the day? In many cases, you’ll probably say no. With lots of staged photographs wedding couples and guests become very rigid. These types of photographs do give a true record for the archive. What they wore, how badly they’d styled their hair or when ‘that colour’ was in fashion.
Now, all of those things don’t get magic’d away by having a candid photographer but, they add another layer to the cake. Kind of a cherry on top, in other words, the best bit (if you like cherries).

With candid photography you get all of the record (the bad hairstyles, the dodgy colour pallette) that’s still there but you get how people interacted, how the father of the bride looked at his daughter for the first time in her wedding dress or how the best man danced with Granny. These moments begin to build a full record of what happened that day but most importantly the emotions felt. These photos become the most honest depiction of your day.
